VCU is the only CAA team still alive in the tournament. Also advancing to the Sweet 16 in an upset was No. 11 seed Marquette, which topped No. 3 seed Syracuse 66-62 Sunday night. The Golden Eagles became the fourth double-digit seed to advance to this year's Sweet 16. Three of those four teams are from the Southwest region.

No. 5 seed Arizona upset fourth-seeded Texas on Sunday by one point, 70-69, to advance to the field of 16. Earlier on Sunday, the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils narrowly escaped eighth-seeded Michigan 73-71. In the Wolverines' victory over No. 9 seed Tennessee on Friday, Michigan became the first team in history to win an NCAA tournament game without making a free throw.

The following teams also punched their tickets to the Sweet 16: No. 1 seeds Kansas and Ohio State, No. 2 seeds UNC, Florida and San Diego State, No. 3 seeds UConn and BYU, No. 4 seeds Wisconsin and Kentucky, and No. 12 seed Richmond.

Women's sweey 16 college basketball:

There were six upsets in the first round of women's tournament. Eleventh-seeded Gonzaga upset No. 6 seed Iowa 92-86 on Saturday. Three of the four No. 9 seeds prevailed this weekend: West Virginia topped eighth-seeded Houston 79-73 on Sunday; Purdue defeated eighth-seeded Kansas State 53-45 on Sunday; and St. John's beat No. 8 seed Texas Tech 55-50 on Saturday.

Two No. 10 seeds upset seventh-seeded teams on Saturday. In the Philadelphia region, Marist defeated Iowa State 74-64. In the Dayton region, Temple topped Arizona State 63-45.

Plenty of teams took care of business in the first round this weekend to advance: No. 1 seeds UConn, Stanford, Tennessee and Baylor; No. 2 seeds Xavier, Duke, Notre Dame and Texas A&M; No. 3 seeds Florida State, Miami, UCLA and DePaul; No. 4 seeds Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan State; No. 5 seeds Green Bay, Georgia Tech, UNC and Georgetown; No. 6 seeds Penn State and Oklahoma; and No. 7 seeds Rutgers and Louisville. Marquette was the only No. 8 seed to survive.

No. 11 seed Middle Tennessee State, which lost teammate Tina Stewart March 2 in a fatal stabbing incident, fell to sixth-seeded Georgia 56-41 on Sunday.

Badan itu mengatakan gempa Jepang terjadi pukul 14:46 pada (13:46 waktu Singapura) Jumat di kedalaman 10 km, sekira 125 km lepas pantai timur.

Badan meteorologi mengatakan gempa jepang terjadi pada pukul 11.45 waktu setempat. Gempa Jepang berpusat di 150 kilometer lepas pesisir tenggara, sekira 440 kilometer tenggara Tokyo. Gempa Jepang berpusat di kedalaman 10 kilometer.

Gelombang tsunami jepang setinggi 60 sentimeter menghantam kota pesisir Ofunato, di Perfektur Iwate. Badan Meteorologi memperingatkan gelombang tsunami jepang setinggi 50 sentimeter akan menghantam pesisir.

"Kami telah mengkonfirmasi terjadinya tsunami kecil, namun sampai saat ini belum ada laporan adanya kerusakan. Kami masih mengkaji dampak gempa,” kata petugas tanggap darurat bencana di Perfektur Iwate Shinobu Nagano seperti dikutip Associated Press, Rabu (9/3/2011).
